Statistically, the average adult begins to show signs of facial aging around the age of 25. Yes, you read that right, 25. The average life expectancy is 72 years; and believe it or not Botox works for everyone in that range (and beyond)!!!
I’m often asked by women and men of all ages- “Do I need it??”
Let’s break this down.
Nobody “NEEDS” Botox.
When we break it down to the basics; nobody really “needs” botox to survive. BUT, it’s sure nice to have!
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that our society view and our culture around beauty is BAD; we’ve created an unachievable and unacceptable vision of what women should look like. Resulting in lowered self esteem and self image…I could rant about this forever!! However, when a woman (or man) comes in to see me and has a small concern that I can easily fix and send them out the door feeling like a million bucks; why not?!?
2. Botox isn’t what you see on the internet
Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures performed for both men and women today. But, those overinflated, swollen lipped, and morphed faces you see online- NOT botox, and NOT done by a good injector. Botox done appropriately will soften muscle contraction- leaving your face looking smooth, yet perfectly like you!
3. It’s too expensive and too painful!
The average Botox visit at Elan Medspa costs about $300. Many looking to treat one area can do so for less than $150!!! As far as pain is concerned; most injections are hardly felt, and the ones that are feel like a very mild poke, that’s easily tolerated by nearly everyone!
Now; let’s get into the meat and potatoes of what Botox really is and how it works. Botox targets area of the face where unwanted signs of aging are occurring due to repetitive facial muscle movements, causing creases in the skin. Over time these creases become permanent. The most common areas affected by this are frown lines, crow’s feet, vertical neck bands, forehead lines, “bunny lines” on the sides of the nose, and marionette lines around the mouth.
These are areas where Botox is the go to remedy, usually for much less than anticipated.
Most individuals leave the office with tiny bumps at the injection sites that last for 5-10 minutes. After that time, there is no visible sign that anything was done! The FDA reports Botox takes somewhere between 5-12 days to completely settle in; so over the next week or so you’ll see your lines gradually fade into oblivion!!!!
Botox is sometimes used in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as dermal fillers. Botox is also used to help treat migraines, and excessive sweating in the palms, feet, or underarms.
